Scoliosis is not uncommon as a whole, though it normally presents in much milder ways. One of the most frequent forms is through a spine which is curved, causing discomfort even though it may not be visible to the naked eye.

The condition was diagnosed when Fu was 6 year's old and has plagued him ever since. He has been unable to walk properly and is often the source of unwanted attention.

Fortunately, there is hope for Fu as a local charity have raised enough funds to sponsor his surgery. Doctors at the Chaoyang hospital are in the planning stages of what will likely be a highly complex surgery, reports Rex.

Boko Haram 'killing people like chickens'

                               

Boko Haram gunmen have killed scores of residents in a town on the border with Cameroon that they captured in recent raids, witnesses told AFP on Saturday.
The militants seized Gamboru Ngala earlier this week after taking over military and police facilities in a fierce gun battle which forced thousands of residents across the border into Cameroon.
The residents fled to Fotokol for fear of attack by the Islamists, despite being told they were only after security personnel and local vigilantes.
"They are now killing people like chickens," said Sidi Kyarimi, a Gamboru resident who fled to Fotokol on Friday. "They started by selective killings and later went on a killing spree."
Among those killed included the town's highest Muslim cleric and the head of its traders' union, he said.

"They threaten to kill anybody who refuses to leave the town. They say we don't belong," he added.
The insurgents were roaming the streets of the town carrying guns and machetes, shooting and hacking to death residents, said Yusuf Sanda, who also fled to Fotokol.
"They have been breaking into homes and shops and looting them," he said.
"Initially they said we were free to stay or leave but now they are saying all residents should leave the town because it is now an Islamic Caliphate."
Sanda said he escaped to Fotokol by wading through the shallow river on the border because it was too dangerous to walk the streets with the insurgents on the prowl.
Boko Haram has in recent weeks seized territory in Borno state near the border with Cameroon in an apparent move to carve out a state for themselves.

In a video obtained by AFP last weekend, Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau declared the town of Gwoza, which his men captured earlier this month, as part of an Islamic caliphate.
Boko Haram now controls at least three districts in Borno state and at least one each in Yobe and Adamawa states.

The military has maintained that Nigeria's sovereignty is intact and denied reports that soldiers fled the Boko Haram assault in Gamboru Ngala into Cameroon.
Borno, Yobe and Adamawa have been under a state of emergency since May last year but despite some initial gains, the military has been unable to stem increasing violence, particularly in remote regions.

Madagali, a predominantly Christian town in the north of Adamawa state, was the latest to fall in the hands of Boko Haram after they chased out troops.
Scores of Christians were killed in the town and many Christian women were allegedly forced to convert to Islam and marry insurgents, according to the spokesman for the Roman Catholic diocese of Maiduguri.

"Christian men were caught and beheaded, the women were forced to become Muslim and were taken as wives to the terrorists," Father Gideon Obasogie alleged.
"The houses of Christians that have fled are now occupied by the Haramists. Their cars are used by the terrorists. Strict Sharia law had been promulgated", he added in an emailed statement.
There was no independent confirmation of Obasogie's claims due to poor phone networks in the remote region and the mass exodus of residents.

Boko Haram Takes over Catholic Church in Adamawa Town .

                                                                                

 

The Catholic Church has complained that the Boko Haram insurgents have taken over the parish rectory of its Church and other houses of Christians after last week’s attack on Madagali in Adamawa State.

The   Director, Catholic Social Communications in-charge of the Maiduguri Diocese, Rev. Fr. Gideon Obasogie, said Christians and Christian institutions had been at the receiving end of the satanic group.

Fr. Obasogie said in Madagali, “the whole town and the Parish rectory have been occupied by the terrorists; so many structures and items have been vandalised. Dozens killed and a lot of church structures have been burnt down.”

Fr. Gideon also lamented the unhindered advancement of the insurgents in the Gwoza part of Borno, a town they have already declared as their Caliphate.

 

In a statement, he said: “The Islamist terrorist group Boko Haram has advanced greatly in their rampage and killings, to the extent of declaring a Caliphate in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, a town bordering Borno and Adamawa states.

“As it is well known, the catholic diocese of Maiduguri covers the whole of Yobe, Borno and Adamawa states, the three states under strict emergency rule.

“Apart from the churches within Maiduguri that have great share of such attacks by the terrorists group, all the churches on the major road linking Maiduguri and Adamawa state have been closed down due to same acts of terrorism. St Timothy’s Bama had been under siege since last year. The Parish priest, Rev. Fr. Timothy Cosmas, had long been relocated to a different Parish. At the early part of this year St. Peter’s Pulka was badly attacked. Thanks to God the Pastor Fr. James John was luckily unavailable. The terrorists searched and wanted to kill the holy Priest of God.

 

 “Lately, precisely on Friday the 22th August 2014, the dreaded group had moved steadily and yet more boldly into Gwoza, which is in Borno State and the neighbouring Madagali Local Government Area in Adamawa State. Declaring a caliphate!!! The assisting priest of St. Denis Madagali, Fr. Aiden Ibrahim, fled the Parish with some of his Parishioners to the mountains, upon hearing serious fire battle from the terrorists. Since the curfew declared after wards was dusk to dawn, they had to travel on foot through the mountains up on till Michika, a neighbouring local government area where movement was free. Since then Madagali and Gwoza had been greatly under siege and strictly controlled by the Boko Haram sects.”

Fr. Gideon said the situation in Madagali remained unclear, adding that people who escaped from the town through the Gwoza hills to Michika could explain it.

“Madagali is a local government that borders Borno and Adamawa states, the closest town to Gwoza . It has a large number of Catholics, and members of other Christian denominations. And a good number of Muslims. It is quite eloquent that terrorism has no friend, but it is abundantly clear that the Christians are worst hit. It might surprise you to know that no one knows the state of affairs in this terrorist zone.

 

“Report reaching the Director Social Communications, Rev. Fr. Gideon Obasogie, in Maiduguri has it that the whole town and the parish rectory have been occupied by the terrorists, so many structures and items have been vandalised. Dozen killed and a lot of church structures have been burnt down. Christians in the town are really in a terribly situation; a moment of great persecution. Christian men were caught and beheaded; the women were forced to become Muslims and were taken as wives to the terrorists. The houses of Christians that have fled are now occupied by the Haramists . Their cars are used by the terrorists. Some Boko Haram sympathisers around the town identify Christian homes to be occupied and the Christians hiding were also identified and killed. Strict Sharia Law has been promulgated, as observed by a woman who luckily escaped the dead zone.

 

“The situation, as it is now, has really and truly gone out of control. People are finding it really hard, citizens are being killed in their numbers. Hope Nigeria would be real in handling the dwindling state of insecurity that has enveloped the entire North east,” the statement said.

Cameroon bombs Boko Haram camp killing “many” fighters

Boko Haram has suffered a heavy casualty after coming under attack from Cameroon’s army.

The Cameroonian army shelled one of the Islamist sect’s camps across the border, killing “many” fighters, according to a security official.

 

The source said the army shelled the camp on Wednesday evening, two days after the jihadist group seized control of Gamboru Ngala on the border with Cameroon.

“It was tanks stationed on the frontier at Fotokol (on Cameroon’s side of the border) that shelled the camp on the other side,” the source said on condition of anonymity.

“Seen from Fotokol this morning, Gamboru looks empty and smells of death,” he added. “Nobody knows how many Boko Haram members were killed, but it is obvious that many were.”

The shelling was confirmed by a local police officer.

 

“These were abandoned houses that they have occupied since they entered Gamboru. We think they still control the town, because there are many of them and they didn’t all gather in the same place,” he said.

All was calm in Fotokol by Wednesday following days of panic as residents fled to escape the Boko Haram attack on Gamboru.

She told the hospital staff who waded into the shouting match that she only went to Victor’s house that day get stipends for her kid's upkeep when Victor and his new lover pounced on her, leaving her badly wounded that she had to be rushed to Motayo for treatment.

It was indeed a nasty experience for the lady, who looked a bit haggard and unkempt and now, with a stitched limb to the bargain. The ugly incidence, which happened in the presence of the hospital staffers and patients, made Victor feel uncomfortable and hazy. He left quietly after she was treated.

Sister and brother have sex in church parking lot

                                                                                     

A brother and sister from Georgia, US, have been arrested after they were reported to have sex in a tractor trailer in the parking lot of a church, Huffington Post reports.
According to the police in the area, Tim Savoy, 25, and his sister Christopher Buckner, 20, admitted that they had sex three times in the trailer.

Police were alerted when a prowler was reported in the area and they found the pair. Both have been charged with aggravated sodomy, incest and prowling

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) on Thursday endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan to run for a second term in office.
The President of NANS, Yinka Gbadebo, who led the National Executive members of the association on a courtesy visit to the First Lady, Dame Patience Faka Jonathan, expressed their support at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The delegation, which passed a vote of confidence on Jonathan, also presented a certificate of credence to Dame Jonathan for her pursuit of peace and empowerment of women and the youth.
"As pragmatic and visionary Nigerians, we can see through the veil of distraction and boldly applaud the Goodluck administration for infrastructural and social transformation.

"We have unflinchingly determined to put all political detractors and evil geniuses to shame in 2015 by giving Mr President the singular and total support of all Nigerian students.

"As a united association, all students have been mandated to cast their votes for President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to emerge victorious and continue the good works of transformation,’’ he said.
Gbadebo noted that in order to actualise this, NANS had floated the Nigerian Students Transformation Vanguard to champion this cause.

The NANS president commended Jonathan for his support to Nigerian students and youths by appointing six past NANS leaders in his administration.
According to him, the past leaders included the Ministers of Information and Education, Labaran Maku and Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, respectively.

Suspected assassins wipe out family in Lagos

                                                                                            


A man, his wife, child and their maid were killed when unknown gunmen invaded their residence at Unity Estate, Akowonjo area of Egbeda, Lagos State, Vanguard reports.

The gunmen who came into the estate around 2 am on Thursday reportedly fired gunshots to scare intruders away, scaled the fence of the building, held the security guard hostage and went to the apartment of the victims.

Neighbours said they heard an argument between the man and the gunmen after which shots were fired that stopped around 4 am.

The bodies of the victims were later taken away by the police.

Hotel workers record customer's sexual escapade

                                                                                         

Three hotel attendants, who allegedly recorded a customer’s sexual affair and demanded a ransom of N10 million, were on Thursday charged before an Ogudu Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The employees had used the hotel’s CCTV to record the guest’s sexual exploit with his girlfriend.
The accused: Sunday Okon, 23; Rita Emmanuel, 28; and Goodness Akpan, 24, whose addresses are unknown, are facing a four-count charge of fraud, demanding property with menace, conspiracy and indecent practices.
Prosecutor Uche Simon told the court that the accused had on August 13 at a hotel in Ogudu area of Lagos conspired to record a guest while sleeping with his girlfriend.
According to him, the accused produced a VCD on it which they circulated to residents of the area.
He alleged that they also demanded a N10 million ransom and threatened to post it on the facebook if the man failed to part with the money.
“The accused actually posted it on the facebook between August 13 and 23.’’
Simon said the offences contravened Sections 136, 166 (d), 299 and 409 of Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused may be sentenced to a minimum of three years each on conviction.


The three men pleaded not guilty and were granted bail in the sum of N100 000 each with two sureties each in like sum.
The three attendants were taken to Kirikiri Prisons pending the fulfillment of their bail conditions.
The case was adjourned to September 19 for mention.

Driver arrested for assaulting policeman

                                                                                         

A policeman attached to the Ijaiye Ojokoro Police Station, Akintunde Adepoju was allegedly assaulted by a commercial driver while controlling traffic at Ajala bus stop in Lagos state, Punch reports.

The policeman was said to have been beaten up by the driver and some other social miscreants for confronting the driver and his conductor who drove the bus recklessly and rammed into another vehicle.

The driver was arrested by a team of patrol policemen and arraigned before an Ojokoro Magistrate’s Court in the Ifako-Ijaiye area of the state and charged for unlawful traffic obstruction, resistance of lawful arrest, reckless driving and assault.

Buhari set to join Presidential race again

                                               

General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) is set to declare for the presidential race under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) within the next few days.

His declaration would be made after he rounds off his nationwide consultations, reports ThisDay.

The former Head of State has been holding consultations with stakeholders cutting across the divide on the next year general election.

Buhari is not new in the race as he has been consistently contesting for the presidency since 2003 when he ran against the then president, Olusegun Obasanjo under the platform of the All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP).

He also contested in 2007 and in 2011 against the late President Umaru Yar Adua and President Goodluck Jonathan respectively but lost in the three elections.

Ebola: Rivers records first suspected case

                                             

 

A doctor, who was said to have treated a diplomat who had contact with the index case, Liberian-American Patrick Sawyer, has allegedly died of the Ebola Virus Disease in Port-Harcourt, Premium Times reports.

The doctor, whose identity is yet to be disclosed, died on Friday while his wife who took ill shortly after his demise and has been quarantined in Port Harcourt.

An official of the Rivers State Government who confirmed the incident said that the government has been able to quarantine 70 people that had contact with the victim.

In order to reduce the spread of the virus, the state government also shut down the Good Heart Hospital where the incident occurred and the hotel the diplomat stayed in the state capital.

Minister of Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu, has said Nigeria remained at risk of Ebola and that that would only change “when the very last case of Ebola virus disease under this current epidemic has gone.

YOUNG JEEZY ARRESTED ON WEAPONS CHARGE DURING INVESTIGATION INTO WIZ KHALIFA CONCERT SHOOTING

                                              

Young Jeezy has been caught up in some legal crossfire.

The rapper is one of five people who have been arrested in the course of the investigation into a fatal shooting at Wiz Khalifa's show Friday at the Verizon Amphitheatre in Mountain View, Calif.

Jeezy, whose real name is Jay Jenkins, has been busted on a weapons charge after a search of his tour bus turned up a firearm, according to the Mountain View Police Department, and as of this evening he was reportedly being held on $1 million bail.

The other men arrested were Kena Marshall, Peter Maynard, David Kuniansky-Altman, William Gilmore and Alexa Beason, according to police.

No one has been arrested in the killing of 38-year-old Eric Johnson, of Orinda, Calif.

"This remains an active homicide investigation and MVPD detectives are aggressively following up on all leads," the MVPD said in a press release. Authorities said that they received calls at 11:05 p.m. on Friday about gunshots fired at the concert venue. Johnson, who had been shot multiple times, was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

281 Fake NYSC Members Sacked From Camp .

                                                                                                

 

 

Authorities of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Niger State, northcentral Nigeria, have thrown 281 fake corps members out of the orientation camp.

Mr. Steven Ehoda-adi, the state’s coordinator of NYSC, disclosed this Tuesday while speaking to journalists shortly after the closing ceremony of the 2014 Batch B orientation exercise in Paiko.



He said the 281 fake corps members identified at the state orientation camp were sent out of the camp after they failed to present their call-up letters.
Ehoda-adi said those affected had nothing to show as having qualified for admission into the camp.


According to him, some of them said they lost their letters when they were attacked by armed robbers on their way to Minna, others claimed to have misplaced them, while some presented photocopies of the letters which he said was not acceptable.

Only 3,259 batch B corps members on Tuesday successfully completed their three weeks orientation in the state.

Also, another 230 corps members comprising pregnant and nursing mothers were disallowed from taking part in the normal routine during the three weeks orientation exercise.

Declaring the orientation camp closed, Governor Mua’zu Babangida Aliyu of Niger State said despite the insecurity in the country occasioned by the activities of the Boko Haram, the unity of the country was not negotiable.

He said though insurgency was threatening the relative peace in some parts of the country, the activities of the Boko Haram sects would soon be brought to an end.

 

Nigeria is Africa’s highest importer of generator .

                                                 

 

Nigeria topped the list of generator-importing countries for the fourth year in a row, having surpassed others since 2002, the Chairman of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company Limited (Vigeo Holdings), Mr. Gbolade Osibodu, said Tuesday.


He said Nigeria accounted for 35 per cent or $152million of the total $432.2million spent by African countries on generator importation in 2005.

The effect, according to him, is that nearly all surviving manufacturing companies run private plants, with more production costs being shifted to the consumers.

Speaking during the plenary session at the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Annual General Conference in Owerri, with the topic: “Nigeria, any hope for an industrial revolution?” Osibodu said development would continue to elude Nigeria until there is regular power supply.

“Nigeria has all it takes – sufficient water, gas, manpower, etc – to solve the power problem in the country. Nigeria is faced with inadequate and unreliable power supply, making it difficult to achieve needed economic growth and development,” he said.

Osibodu expressed optimism that the ongoing power sector reform would guarantee power supply, adding that post-privatisation challenges such as inadequate generating capacity and transmission limitation must be tackled.

“Successful reform of the power sector will lead to revitalisation and growth of industries in Nigeria. To the question: Any hope of industrial revolution in Nigeria? The answer is Yes, but this will require the commitment of all stakeholders,” he said.

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Solomon Asemota, who chaired the session, said industrial revolution in Nigeria would depend on the immediate ending of the ideological war between liberal democracy and Sharia

“Sharia is the direct opposite of the industrial revolution with the policies it tries to enforce as is with Boko Haram and its desire of a world caliphate through violence and force. It is feudalistic and retrogressive.

“The enforcement of Sharia is in fact the protection of a system that perpetuates oligarchy because the oligarchs are the interpreters of Sharia. It is essentially politics of the stomach typified by Boko Haram. We have remained stagnant over the years because of our dual ideology.

“Brazil, India, Indonesia, China and others with whom Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product effectively competed in the 1960s and have one ideology have made progress.

“Until Nigeria develops democracy as its ideology, industrial revolution will only remain a mirage,” Asemota said.

 

Fears grow Boko Harm may use suicide bombers dressed as Catholic nuns for attacks .

                                              

 

 

FRESH fears have grown that Boko Haram may carry out a bomb attack using suicide bombers dressed as Catholic nuns hiding explosives under their clothing after a shop storing habits was broken into in Kano.

 

Last week, a tailoring shop which makes habits and religious garments for Catholic nuns at  Odutola Street in Sabon Gari, Kano, was broken into. During the raid, 13 pieces of Catholic Church reverend sisters’ regalia was stolen and carted away.

With the recent trend of female suicide bombings in the country, the theft of these regalia has heightened concerns about the possibility of terrorist elements using same to perpetrate acts of terror. Of late, Boko Haram has resorted to the use of female suicide bombers to carry out its deadly attacks.

 

In several instances, young girls not yet in their teens have been sent to public parks with bombs, not aware of the deadly contents of their packages. It has also been suspected that the terrorist sect is also using some of the pupils kidnapped from Government Girls Secondary School Chibok as mules.

 

Fearful that the raid on the Catholic chop may be part of a wider plot, the Department of State Services (DSS) has urged members of the public to be vigilant. DSS deputy director Marilyn Ogar, has called for vigilance.

 

Ms Ogar added: "This service wishes to draw the attention of the public to this development and to call on all citizens to be more circumspect and exercise greater vigilance with users of such peculiar attires. We therefore enjoin all to continue to cooperate with law enforcement agencies through the provision of useful information on suspicious activities within their immediate environment."

 

Over recent months, Boko Haram, has repeatedly changed tactics, wrong-footing the security agencies with new modus operandi. Its car and suicide bomb attacks have generally caught security operatives off guard.
