Ebola: Rivers records first suspected case

                                             
 
A doctor, who was said to have treated a diplomat who had contact with the index case, Liberian-American Patrick Sawyer, has allegedly died of the Ebola Virus Disease in Port-Harcourt, Premium Times reports.

The doctor, whose identity is yet to be disclosed, died on Friday while his wife who took ill shortly after his demise and has been quarantined in Port Harcourt.

An official of the Rivers State Government who confirmed the incident said that the government has been able to quarantine 70 people that had contact with the victim.

In order to reduce the spread of the virus, the state government also shut down the Good Heart Hospital where the incident occurred and the hotel the diplomat stayed in the state capital.

Minister of Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu, has said Nigeria remained at risk of Ebola and that that would only change “when the very last case of Ebola virus disease under this current epidemic has gone.
