It
was naira rain for the glorious trophy-winning Super Falcons yesterday as the
federal government released about N70 million to settle all the arrears of
bonuses being owed them.
Each
player, we gathered pocketed about N3m from the largesse.
The
Minister of Sports and Chairman National Sports Commission (NSC), Dr Tammy
Danagogo, who made the disclosure when he received the team at the Abuja
National stadium said that the money has already been released to the General
Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Barrister Musa Amadu, who
disbursed it to the players.
Showering
encomium on the ladies that last weekend won the African Women Championship for
the seventh times, the Minister said: “I want to thank you specially for
enduring the challenges of playing without payment of your bonuses. You have
shown your patriotism and did not even allow the crisis rocking the Nigerian
football family to distract your preparations and performances on the field of
play. You endured everything to make this country very proud.”
Amadu
told Daily Sunsports that each player pocketed $18,000 (about N3 million) for
participating in the Africa Women Championship (AWC).
