A 24-year-old man was on Tuesday brought before an Ebute-Metta Chief Magistrate's Court charged with defiling a seven-year old girl.
Matthew Edide, shares the same compound with the victim's parents in Lagos.
Prosecutor DSP Etim Ekankuk told the court that the crime was committed on June 27 at about 7.30pm.
When the charge was read out, the accused pleaded not guilty to it.
The media reports that the offence contravenes Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The Chief Magistrate granted the accused bail in the sum of N500 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Demi-Ajayi said the prosecutor should duplicate the case file for the Director of Public Prosecution’s advice.
The case was adjourned to September 24 for hearing.
