Filipe
Luis was on standby for Brazil at this summer's World Cup
Chelsea have signed Atletico
Madrid left-back Filipe Luis on a three-year contract for an undisclosed fee.
The
28-year-old Brazilian will wear the number five shirt, the club said.
"This
move is a dream come true for me," Luis told the Chelsea website.
"I'm very happy and looking forward to getting started and giving my best
for the team during the coming seasons."
He looks
to be a direct replacement for ex-England left-back Ashley Cole, who joined Roma last week.
"It
has been a few memorable years," Luis tweeted on Wednesday. "Thank
you for supporting me always Atletico."
Atletico
said the former Deportivo La Coruna player told them at the end of the season
that he wanted to join Chelsea.
He will
become the second Atletico player to sign for the Blues this summer after Spain
striker Diego Costa completed a £32m move.
Luis has
played 180 matches for Los Rojiblancos since arriving from La Liga rivals
Deportivo in the summer of 2010.
He has won
four caps for Brazil, who named him on their standby list for their 2014 Fifa
World Cup squad.
