MAN KILLS ELDER BROTHER DURING FAMILY SQABBLE

CALABAR A 29-year-old man, Udo Nya, has been arrested in the ancient city of Calabar, the Cross River State capital for stabbing his elder brother, Ekpeyong, to death with a knife over a minor family squabble.

An eyewitness had it that the incident which started at their 27, Beecroft Street, Calabar residence took the assailant to a barbers shop at Efut Street where the deceased was later allegedly hacked to death.

A source, who preferred anonymity, told Vanguard that the fight started when Ekpeyong returned from his base and learnt that Udo had incessantly been assaulting their mother, unknown to him the brother was still nursing a grudge.

The source said: Some years ago, the assailant was stabbed by the deceased because of assault on their mother, but he (Udo) had since vowed to retaliate. The opportunity, however, came for him Friday night when the brother pummeled him for his misbehaviour.

Udo who is now at large did not hesitate to hack his brother down with a knife. He died on the way to the hospital.

The landlord of the house, Mr. Okokon Asako Inyang, who spoke with Vanguard said he was not at home when the incident took place but confirmed that the deceased came to visit their mother when he was allegedly killed by his brother.

His words: I was not at home when it happened, I came back to meet a crowd in front of my house and my wife told me everything that happened between Udo and Ekpeyong.
